Rediscovering Google Apps

Stumbled upon some new features of Google Apps by accident. Was browsing the list of attendees to the IIT 2007 conference. Located a familiar name and looked up his website, and stumbled upon his "start page".

Domain with simple requirements hosted courtesy of google sounded real sweet. Stumbled upon a .info domain name sale at GoDaddy. Bought a domain name for Institute of Optical Advancement and promptly pointed the CNAME records to Google. Also transferred the Nath Opticians website to Google Apps.

Google Blog Alerts

Google Blog Alerts looks really useful: you can create a custom query to suit your interests. What would be great would be to be able to view the result as a feed (on your google personalised homepage?), instead of receiving emails.

PS: How does google find backlinks to its blog? Blogger doesnt have trackback.

Google Talk

Google launched its own Instant Messaging Client today.

Guess what? MSN messenger has been uninstalled here with immediate effect. (Yahoo was uninstalled months ago).

Pros:
  • Simple
  • Clean
  • Ad-free
  • Auto import of Gmail contacts
Cons:
  • No emoticons. Hey wait, that's good!
  • No webcam. Again, that's good (though my wife disagrees)
  • No invisible mode
Download Google Talk now. You know you want to.
